City Girl Camping

Jonathan Dickinson State ParkOnce a month, I have dinner with four girls I met in the Junior League of Boca Raton. One night, over a good glass of wine in a trendy restaurant, Gisela suggested we go camping. Cathy laughed and asked, “At the Ritz Carlton, right?” And, so, the seed was planted. A plan began to evolve. And an outdoor adventure would soon be upon us.

Several months later, Gisela, Cathy, Victoria, and I embarked upon a journey. One close to home, in a peaceful park known as Jonathan Dickinson State Park. We rented a little cabin in the woods, packed lots of wine and tasty food, and off we went.

After settling in and drinking lots of wine, we explored our serene surroundings covered in smelly bug spray…

Dinner was next. Thanks to Victoria, we filled our bellies with delicious, homemade lasagna. Of course, the wine was flowing. We then satisfied our sweet tooth with Rice Krispies treats, courtesy of Cathy. Lights out, as we’d be up bright and early the following day. Jonathan Dickinson State Park

On our morning walk, we were rewarded by two cute, gentle deer frolicking in the woods. Next up: Mimosas and French toast casserole. And, yes, we definitely got teased by our friends on Facebook for our definition of “roughing it up in the wilderness.” Who knew camping could be so pleasant? Definitely not the Ritz, but quite possibly a more upscale camping experience for these city girls. 🙂

We explored the park on rented bikes. Up and down hills we went. Off to the tower for a panoramic view of the park, ocean and Jupiter Island. Around the campsite we biked, as hot dogs, toasted marshmallows, and campfires tickled our noses.

Other outdoor activities at Jonathan Dickinson State Park include: canoeing, a scenic boat tour, kayaking and swimming. Even though the lake is a beautiful site, I definitely would have to pass on taking a dip in its waters. Let’s leave it at that.

City Girl CampingAs the skies turned grey, we made our way back to our little cabin in the woods. Cathy and I took naps. As the rain came down hard, Gisela and Victoria could hear Cathy and I giggle as we lay in our air conditioned bedroom. We thought about all the campers getting drenched in their tents, as we snuggled up in our blankets and let the rain lull us into slumber. Definitely not the Ritz, but not bad. Steaks on the grill, sweet potatoes covered with bacon bits, blue cheese, cashews, and balsamic sauce, asparagus, and birthday cake were followed by an evening of crafting vision boards.

As all weekend getaways must end, so did ours. This morning, we packed our cars and headed home with memories to last a lifetime… Thanks, girls, for a wonderful weekend in the woods!

Incredible! This blog looks just like my old one! It’s on a completely different subject but it has pretty much the same layout and design. Great choice of colors!
