Duck Fest Derby Benefiting Kids in Distress

By on April 5, 2014 in Community and Volunteering with 4 Comments

Duck Fest DerbyI recently volunteered at the Duck Fest Derby, which benefited Kids in Distress. My company, JM Family Enterprises, was the presenting sponsor. In the past, I have volunteered for this super fun event held at Esplanade Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

This year, I got to be part of the Kids Olympics. Kids were given a chance to compete by age and gender. Entry was free, and the prizes were awesome — of course.

I was stationed at the jump rope competition, where I counted jumps while a co-worker tracked the time. In years past, I’ve made cotton candy and snow cones. Interacting with kids was a much more lively experience.

There were food trucks galore, games, and of course, the main event — the duck race. Thousands of ducks were adopted to support Kids in Distress, a non-profit organization that prevents child abuse, preserves the family, and treats children who have been abused and neglected. The ducks were dumped into New River, and the winning ducks scored amazing Duck Fest Derby Sponsorsprizes for the winners, including a $10,000 cash prize, along with trips, jewelry, and entertainment prizes.

What a fun event to volunteer for and a great cause to support!
